Howie Mandel challenges Kelly Ripa regarding age-related compliments

The renowned comedian and "America’s Got Talent" judge Howie Mandel recently marked his 70th birthday, an occasion that led to a remarkably candid exchange on the set of "Live with Kelly and Mark".

During the Monday broadcast, hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos attempted to congratulate the entertainer on reaching the milestone, but the interaction took an unexpected turn when Ripa remarked that his age "doesn’t make any sense."

Clearly unimpressed by the implication regarding his physical appearance, Mandel immediately questioned the host, asking, "What do you mean it doesn’t make any sense?"

As Consuelos attempted to intervene by suggesting the comment was meant to convey that Mandel looks "great," the comedian remained firm in his critique of such societal platitudes.

"That doesn’t mean anything," Mandel retorted, further explaining his stance on the hidden insults often found within age-based praise. "I don’t like that because that’s a caveat, ’cause you tell someone you’re 70, and they go, ‘you look great—’" he continued.

Ripa quickly interjected to clarify that she did not believe he had reached that age, yet Mandel doubled down on his perspective. "No, no. It’s like saying you’re smart for a stupid person," he told the laughing audience.

The atmosphere eventually lightened when Mandel teasingly agreed that he is "gorgeous" before attributing his vitality to a "ridiculous" swimming routine involving ankle cables and frying-pan paddles.
