FKA Twigs challenges 'illegal' NDA in new lawsuit against Shia LaBeouf
Singer FKA Twigs seeks to invalidate settlement terms following actor’s attempt to silence her
The British singer-songwriter FKA Twigs has launched a new legal challenge against her former partner, Shia LaBeouf, alleging that he has used an "illegal" nondisclosure agreement (NDA) to silence her.
The complaint, filed on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, in Los Angeles Superior Court, argues that the terms of their July 2025 settlement violate California’s Stand Together Against Non-Disclosure Act (STAND Act).
This legislation specifically prohibits the use of NDAs to hide details of sexual misconduct, harassment, or discrimination in settlement agreements.
The dispute escalated after LaBeouf’s legal team initiated a secret arbitration demand in December 2025, claiming Twigs breached their contract.
The actor took issue with an October interview in which Twigs stated she did not feel "safe" regarding that chapter of her life.
While the initial arbitration was dismissed, Twigs is now seeking a judicial declaration to have the NDA provisions declared void.
Her attorney, Mathew Rosengart, stated in the 22-page filing: "This is a case about justice and law, not money," adding that the singer is acting on behalf of other survivors who lack the resources to defend themselves from similar "bullying" tactics.
This fresh legal battle coincides with a difficult period for LaBeouf, who was recently arrested following a physical altercation during Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
On 17 February 2026, the thirty-nine-year-old actor was charged with two counts of simple battery after allegedly punching several individuals.
He was subsequently hit with an additional battery charge on 29 February. Although LaBeouf previously acknowledged "abusive" behaviour in general terms, he continues to deny the specific allegations of sexual battery and assault first brought by Twigs in 2020.
