Amanda Marie Morgan pleads not guilty to felony murder
Mother Amanda Marie Morgan faces charges after son with autism dies in Theodore
Amanda Marie Morgan, 39, has pleaded not guilty to charges of felony murder and aggravated child abuse following the tragic death of her 14-year-old son.
The Mobile Police Department launched an investigation in October 2025 after officers discovered the deceased boy at a mobile home park on Sperry Road in Theodore, Alabama.
Both the victim and his 16-year-old sister have autism and were allegedly left unsupervised for "extended periods of time."
The teenager reportedly died after accidentally strangled by his blanket during an overnight period when his mother was absent. His sister was subsequently hospitalised for malnutrition.
The conditions within the residence were described by investigators as severely neglected, featuring an infestation of insects and faeces on the walls.
Furthermore, the property lacked essential utilities, including running water and air conditioning. During a court appearance on Tuesday, details emerged regarding the systemic nature of the neglect.
Morgan is currently being held at the Mobile County Metro Jail, with a judge setting a cash component bond of $400,000 for the murder charge and $40,000 for the child abuse charge.
As part of her bond conditions, Morgan is strictly prohibited from contacting her surviving daughter. The Mobile County District Attorney’s Office continues to review the evidence as the legal process moves forward.
A preliminary hearing for the case is scheduled to take place on Monday, 20 April 2026. This heartbreaking incident has drawn significant attention to the challenges and safety requirements for vulnerable children with additional needs within the local community.
