“On Our Way Along” is truly a Cyrus family project.
On Friday (April 3), Billy Ray Cyrus dropped his new song “On Our Way Along,” the leading track from his new album The Hill.
Working alongside his children, daughter Noah Cyrus adds her voice while son Braison Cyrus contributed to the writing and production of the song.
In this song, the father-daughter duo reflect on their family’s home in Nashville “where the sun rises on the hill” and the shared experiences they've endured.
“This song is entirely about this hill, and realizing my entire life has been shaped here and the wonder of this location,” the 64-year-old, two-time Grammy recipient shared with American Songwriter in an interview released on Thursday, April 2. “It’s like coming full circle."
In the pre-chorus, Billy Ray and Noah sing together: “Of the many paths we might have taken, I’m so glad our paths met / And all the battles we have faced, and all the friends we lost along our journey.”
Billy Ray describes “On Our Way Along” as a “celebration of music and family” created “from the heart for the heart,” according to the press release.
"I am extremely proud to collaborate with my dad and my brother Braison (our producer) on this track,” noted Noah, 26, in a press release.
"Braison has crafted a lovely album, and I'm thrilled to be a small part of it as well as our father’s legacy."
Shot on their Nashville land and directed by CMA award-winner Dustin Haney, the music video opens with Billy Ray emerging from a morning fog as the song kicks off.
The video features the country star performing in a wide open field, guitar in hand, before switching views to a young girl seemingly portraying a young Noah. The scene transitions to Noah sitting at a piano, harmonizing with her father.
The video concludes with the duo passionately singing, “Time is slipping away, I have too much to accomplish / I feel the weight every time I gaze at the hill,” with their voices gently fading as Billy Ray appears alone in the field and walks away.
