Kate Jackson reveals fame cost her 'every bit of privacy'
Kate Jackson questions the global obsession with sharing personal locations
Acclaimed actress Kate Jackson has candidly discussed the motivations behind her withdrawal from the Hollywood spotlight during the PaleyFest 50th anniversary celebration in Los Angeles.
Speaking with People Magazine, the Charlie’s Angels icon reflected on how the global phenomenon of the series resulted in an overwhelming loss of personal liberty.
Jackson explained the intrusive nature of her stardom, stating, "We lost our privacy, totally. We just absolutely totally lost every bit of privacy."
She noted that the situation was further exacerbated by the press, adding, "And then, to make it worse, those horrible tabloids."
The veteran performer also voiced significant reservations regarding the digital age and the culture of constant self-documentation.
Sharing her distaste for social media platforms, she remarked, "I don’t understand social media. I mean, I don't get it." Jackson expressed a deep yearning for a quieter existence, noting, "All I want is a little privacy. And I don't understand why people are so fond of taking their picture and telling the world where they are at this very moment, doing this thing. I don't get it."
Despite her hesitations, Jackson reunited with former costars Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd. While admitting to initial anxieties about the public appearance, Jackson found comfort in the reunion.
She confessed, "[It’s been] a long time. It feels good to be together. Because I was nervous about this thing, I haven't... these things we used to do and it was no big deal. It was easy, but it's been a while. So, I was nervous about it." Jackson first rose to prominence in the 1970s.
