Tyler West opens up about dark moment after witnessing murder
Tyler West emotionally recounted witnessing a horrific murder during his teenage years
TV and radio personality Tyler West shared an emotional story about witnessing a tragic murder during his teenage years.
At just 14, Tyler experienced the aftermath of a brutal stabbing on a London council estate, which left him contemplating ending his own life.
At 30, Tyler opened up to Pete Wicks on the Man Made podcast, describing how the traumatising event transformed him into a fearful recluse.
Holding back tears, he recounted: “I was panicking because I saw the men return, trying to put the body in a bag. It was horrifying.
“The call to the police lasted over 10 minutes, and still no response. My mom and I went out, with her trying to press towels against the wounds while I stood over the victim.
“I was hysterical, in shock, unable to even feel the tears on my face. The pain was so intense, I couldn’t understand what was happening.
“That day forever changed my life, though I didn’t realize it at the time.”
Tyler feared he would meet a similar fate, believing it was an inherent part of life.
“I was already shy, but following the incident, I didn’t leave my room for two years.
“I developed severe OCD, unable to open blinds and kept my room in darkness. I couldn't even use utensils at meals.”
“I couldn’t walk on that side of the street if I ventured outside. Making my bed became a necessity to avoid misfortune. I was terrified I’d die.”
Even the slightest violence, be it on screen or in real life, sent him spiraling. Specifically, he feared intoxicated individuals and found himself unable to attend school.
The trial as a witness stirred anger over its harshness, revealing to him distressing details of the event.
The overwhelming experience led Tyler to a bridge near his home one early morning.
He shared: “My phone battery died as I stood on the bridge, questioning why I was there. “The intrusive thoughts were consuming me, wondering if I’d jump.”
He’s also happily partnered with EastEnders star Molly Rainford.
