Christopher Nolan teases tighter runtime for epic 'The Odyssey'
'The Odyssey' is set to release in theaters on July 17
Christopher Nolan has confirmed that his upcoming epic The Odyssey will have a shorter runtime than his previous blockbuster Oppenheimer, though it will still deliver a масштабный cinematic experience.
Speaking in a recent interview with Associated Press, the Oscar-winning director revealed that the film will run under three hours, a notable shift from Oppenheimer, which clocked in at a full three hours.
Nolan explained that the decision was partly influenced by the technical constraints of IMAX projection, as The Odyssey was filmed entirely using IMAX cameras. “We know it’s less than three hours,” he said, adding that while the film remains an epic in scale, it will be more concise.
Based on The Odyssey, attributed to Homer, the story follows the long journey of Odysseus as he attempts to return home after the Trojan War.
The film features a star-studded cast led by Matt Damon in the title role, alongside Tom Holland as Telemachus and Anne Hathaway as Penelope.
Nolan acknowledged the weight of adapting such a legendary work, calling it a project that comes with “a massive amount of pressure.”
He emphasized the importance of delivering a sincere and compelling interpretation of a story that has endured for centuries.
The filmmaker also compared the experience to his work on the Batman trilogy, noting that audiences expect authenticity and commitment when revisiting beloved material.
Production on the film was physically demanding, with Nolan describing it as “an absolute nightmare to film in all the right ways.”
He praised Damon’s leadership on set, highlighting the actor’s dedication across challenging locations and conditions.
