Lottie Weaver defends decision not to require kids to share in public spaces
The influencer says children should learn to set boundaries
Lottie Weaver is drawing attention online after outlining her firm stance on how her children should handle sharing while in public play spaces.
The 32-year-old content creator, who has more than 3 million followers on TikTok, posted a video explaining that she does not expect her children to share their toys or snacks with other kids at parks or communal play areas.
“If we are out and about at the park… they’re not sharing with your kids,” Weaver said, adding that she “never, ever” makes her children share items they brought from home.
Weaver, who is mother to daughters Berklie, 13, Kinlee, 10, and Hadley, 6, explained that she believes children should be responsible for bringing their own toys and should not feel obligated to give them up simply because they are asked.
She also said the approach teaches an important lesson about boundaries, particularly for young girls, emphasizing that children do not have to say yes to every request they receive.
However, Weaver clarified that her views apply specifically to public, communal settings.
She noted that sharing is expected during playdates at her home and said she supports her children choosing to share voluntarily in any situation.
At the same time, she added that she will step in if situations escalate, such as when toys are not returned or boundaries are ignored.
“If my kid doesn’t want to share… she doesn’t have to,” Weaver said, reinforcing her belief that children should have autonomy over their belongings.
