A dramatic hair transformation by Elliot Coleman has ignited a wave of reactions online, with millions of TikTok users weighing in on his bold new look and many urging him to reverse it.

The 41-year-old singer and runner, based in Brooklyn, went viral after sharing a before-and-after video documenting his decision to cut his shoulder-length hair and shave off his beard entirely.

The clip quickly gained traction, amassing around 2 million views and drawing thousands of comments, many of which called on him to “grow it all back.”

But Coleman wasn’t caught off guard by the strong reaction.

“I wasn’t surprised,” he said, noting that the transformation was more dramatic than a simple haircut. “Not only did I cut my hair, but I shaved off this big beard I had been growing out for about four months. It’s a pretty drastic change.”

In the now-viral clip, Coleman first revealed his long hair loose from an updo before cutting to a clean-cut, clean-shaven version of himself.

The stark contrast prompted widespread commentary, with users remarking on how different he looked.

Leaning into the moment, Coleman joked that the shift took him from looking like an ‘80s metal rocker to a more buttoned-up professional.

“I thought it looked pretty funny, and figured it would get views,” he added.

Despite the online buzz, the musician appears largely unfazed. He described the flood of comments as entertaining rather than overwhelming, noting that both he and those around him have found humor in the situation.

“It’s like water off a duck’s back,” he said, explaining that drastic hair changes are nothing new for him.

Coleman revealed that he has gone through similar grow-and-cut cycles multiple times over the years, often switching up his look when it starts to feel repetitive.

The transformation itself was partly practical. He decided to cut his hair while training for a race, citing the inconvenience of managing long hair during a harsh New York winter.

Now, just weeks after the viral moment, Coleman is already on his way back to his signature look.

A recent update shows noticeable regrowth in both his hair and beard, signaling a return to the style many of his followers — and even his family — seem to prefer.

Still, the final decision rests with him.

“I prefer it grown out,” he admitted, though he’s in no rush. For those eagerly waiting, Coleman quipped that his full-length hair and beard may not return until 2029 — proving he’s happy to take the long road back, regardless of TikTok’s opinions.
