Project Hail Mary breaks box office records
Ryan Gosling leads Project Hail Mary to 228.5 million dollars in twenty days
The interstellar drama Project Hail Mary has achieved a remarkable milestone, leaving industry observers stunned as it continues a dominant run at the box office.
Starring Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, the film has officially crossed the $228.5 million mark domestically within just twenty days of release.
This impressive figure narrowly overtakes the $228.4 million domestic total of the 2015 space-survival epic, The Martian, which featured Matt Damon.
Opening with a formidable $80.5 million, the production has already amassed a global haul exceeding $400 million.
While it remains to be seen if it will ultimately eclipse The Martian’s worldwide total of $630.2 million, the film’s momentum is undeniable.
Beyond the financial success, Sandra Hüller, who portrays Eva Stratt, has sparked significant public interest regarding a distinct tattoo on her neck.
Co-directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller recently clarified the sombre meaning behind the ink, which represents Stratt’s harrowing experience on Earth.
"One of the things that we kept trying to cram into the movie and just didn't stick was this idea that after Grace went off to space, people did not cooperate," Lord told Collider.
He explained that governments eventually imprisoned Stratt, leading to the tattoo. Miller added, "She has a little tattoo that has a 'V' with a line through it — meaning 'V' as in 'life' and then the line meaning 'without parole'."
Project Hail Mary is currently showing in theatres, following Gosling’s previous acclaimed roles in La La Land and First Man.
