Bloodborne being transformed into R-rated aimated movie
Sony is revisiting the Gothic universe of Bloodborne
It's not being transformed into a PC port or a recreation, but Sony is revisiting the Gothic realm of Bloodborne.
Not much has been disclosed yet—Sony mentions that "narrative aspects are still under wraps"—but the game is set to become "an R-rated animated movie," with YouTube personality Seán “Jacksepticeye” McLoughlin (known Bloodborne enthusiast) acting as a producer. The release date remains unknown.
Originally launched in 2015 on the PS4, Bloodborne was developed by FromSoftware, the creators behind the Souls series of dark fantasy games.
Much like those titles, Bloodborne gained a reputation for its challenging gameplay, along with the beloved depiction of Yharnam, the city that serves as its backdrop.
Within the game, Yharnam is afflicted by a virus that transforms its inhabitants into aggressive creatures.
Sony's efforts to adapt its major PlayStation franchises for movies and television have met with varied success.
While HBO’s rendition of The Last of Us has been well-received, other endeavors like Uncharted and Twisted Metal have not performed as well. Next in line is a live-action adaptation of God of War scheduled for Prime Video.
Bloodborne is not the only FromSoftware title being adapted for film. A24 is in the process of developing an adaptation of the expansive fantasy world of Elden Ring, with Alex Garland directing the project.
