A 20-year-old woman is fighting for her life after a devastating accident in Utah left her with severe head injuries and in a coma, according to local authorities and family updates.

Erin Plumb was injured on April 5 after falling from the tailgate of a moving pickup truck while helping her family deliver items to a neighbor, in what officials have described as a freak accident.

The young woman sustained “significant” injuries and remains hospitalized, with her condition described as critical.

Her mother, Heather Plumb, revealed the severity of the trauma, explaining that surgeons had to remove portions of her skull to relieve swelling on the brain.

Despite the seriousness of her condition, there have been small signs of progress.

According to her family, Erin has begun showing responses to pain stimuli, an encouraging indicator doctors were hoping to see at this stage of her recovery.

A family friend has since launched a fundraising campaign to help cover mounting medical expenses, sharing periodic updates on Erin’s condition.

In a recent message, the friend noted that swelling has reduced and that Erin has been placed on a feeding tube.

While those updates offer cautious optimism, loved ones stress that her recovery will be long and uncertain.

The family continues to hope for improvement as she remains in a medically induced coma, with doctors closely monitoring her condition.

“The days since the accident have been filled with uncertainty, worry, and countless prayers,” the fundraiser description read, underscoring the emotional toll on those closest to her.
