Barbie Ferreira has opened up about the uncertainty surrounding her upcoming horror film Faces of Death, revealing she once feared the project might never reach audiences.

The 29-year-old actress stars in the 2026 mockumentary, a reimagining of the controversial 1978 film, which was banned in several countries due to its graphic content.

Speaking to Deadline, Ferreira admitted the film’s reputation left her worried about its future after filming wrapped in 2023.

“I thought I learned a whole big lesson in Hollywood,” she said. “You could shoot a whole movie, and it doesn’t even come out.”

Ferreira explained that despite her excitement for the project, lingering concerns about censorship and distribution persisted.

“It felt like such a fun, good movie,” she said. “But I kept thinking, are they going to censor us? Are they not going to put us in theaters? Are they not going to even release it at all?”

Now, with the film set for release, the actress says the moment feels especially rewarding after years of uncertainty.

“This moment is just so satisfying,” she added. “It’s been so long of me stressing over the fact that this wonderful, super cool, scary film wasn’t getting attention because of things that had nothing to do with the art.”

Ferreira also praised her co-star Charli XCX, who makes her acting debut in the film. The actress revealed she had been a longtime fan of the singer well before her breakout 2024 album Brat.

“It was before Brat. We were the OG fans,” Ferreira said. “I’ve known Charli for a long time and have been such a fan of her music.”

She added that working alongside the pop star in a demanding film environment — far removed from the glamor of the music industry — was a unique and enjoyable experience.

“It was really fun to see her in that element,” Ferreira said, recalling long filming days in Louisiana with early call times and intense shooting schedules.

The project marks another step in Ferreira’s evolving career following her departure from Euphoria in 2022, where she starred as Kat Hernandez.

The actress said leaving the hit series was a necessary move to expand her range.

“What makes me happy is acting and growing my career,” she explained. “I wanted to be able to do different roles.”
