A tragic shooting in a Chick-fil-A in New Jersey resulted in at least one fatality and several injuries.

Union County authorities responded to a shooting call at the restaurant located on Route 22 around 9pm local time on Saturday (April 11), according to reports by ABC 7 and CBS New York.

One individual was pronounced dead at the location, and at least six others sustained gunshot wounds, as stated by Newsweek.

Details regarding the suspects and their identities, as well as those of the victims, remain undisclosed.

“This investigation remains active and underway,” declared Lauren Farinas, from the Union County Prosecutor's Office (UCPO), per NJ.com.

She mentioned, “Further details will be provided as they become accessible.”

Relatives of the restaurant staff stated that employees were held in the locked establishment during the police probe.

A man shared with ABC 7 that he rushed to the store following a distressing call from his child.

The father reported multiple masked intruders targeted the staff, depicting the scene as a "battlefield."

A Lyft driver, who was wrapping up a trip nearby, recounted to ABC 7 that he distinctly heard numerous gunshots.

“I completed my trip there, in the drop-off area. I heard the shots. After completing the drop-off, I headed to Chick-fil-A to purchase two burgers, [and] I saw the police. The shots sounded very close,” he recounted to the station.

The investigation into the shooting is being spearheaded by the UCPO.

Upon reaching out for a statement, a Chick-fil-A representative referred PEOPLE to local enforcement, noting, "The investigation is ongoing."

Neither the UCPO nor the Union Police Department (UPD) offered immediate comments to PEOPLE on Sunday (April 12).
