Son’s shopping trail exposes alleged 'mummy-style' attempt to hide father’s execution killing
Daniel Sebastian Ordonez faces charges of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence
A Texas man went on a frightening shopping spree at Walmart and Home Depot, allegedly attempting to mask his father's shooting death.
He bought items like concrete mix and a "mummy"-type sleeping bag before hiding his father's body near their home, authorities say.
Daniel Sebastian Ordonez, aged 31, faces charges of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and failing to report human remains, linked to the death of his father, Daniel Antonio Ordonez.
The older man was supposedly located in a garbage bag behind their shared San Antonio residence, and he was reportedly shot in the head.
Court papers from the San Antonio Express-News describe how Daniel Sebastian Ordonez reportedly bought towels, duct tape, and a sleeping bag from a nearby Walmart.
Subsequently, he visited Home Depot, where surveillance footage captured him acquiring gloves, a shovel, a sledgehammer, clear acrylic sheets, a scoring tool for plastic sheets, CLR cleaner, two bags of concrete mix, and a trowel tool, according to the arrest report.
The police claim Daniel Sebastian Ordonez was in the process of concealing his father's murder while making these purchases, as reported by WOAI.
He allegedly opted for a simple black trash bag to obscure his dad's body, moving it behind Daniel Antonio Ordonez's residence and leaving it there, while concealing his phone and keys in a pot of soil.
The remains were found following a report from a family member who informed police that Daniel Antonio Ordonez was missing in early April.
The family member stated they could track Daniel Antonio Ordonez's whereabouts via his smartwatch, which indicated unusual activity, per the affidavit and Express-News.
Officers visited the father's residence for a welfare check and discovered his phone and keys in the flower pot; additionally, one of his cars was parked in the back, exhibiting a bullet hole in the driver's side rear window, according to the affidavit.
Law enforcement reported that Daniel Sebastian Ordonez and his wife arrived while officers were there and verified that Daniel Antonio Ordonez lived in the house. They permitted officers to search the premises, leading to the discovery of the elder Ordonez in the trash bag, which was resting on clear plastic sheeting with visible "blood leakage" from it, as noted in the affidavit.
Officers noted "blood drag marks on the ground near the body," based on the affidavit. A search and investigation inside the home supposedly unveiled blood detection reagent use and cleanup efforts throughout the property.
Investigators claimed they reviewed Daniel Sebastian Ordonez's bank statements and noted his purchases at Walmart and Home Depot listed among his recent transactions. They inspected the surveillance footage and observed Daniel Sebastian Ordonez in videos purchasing these items, according to the affidavit.
An autopsy performed by the Bexar County Medical Examiner concluded that Daniel Antonio Ordonez's death was caused by a gunshot wound to the head, classifying it as a homicide.
As of Tuesday, Daniel Sebastian Ordonez faces charges solely related to hiding his father's corpse. He has reportedly refuted participating in the shooting and claimed ignorance regarding his father's fate, per the affidavit.
Daniel Sebastian Ordonez was detained this week under a $150,000 bond. His court appearance is scheduled for July 8.
