Dakota Mortensen has broken his silence regarding the recent legal developments involving his former partner, Taylor Frankie Paul.

In a statement posted to Instagram on Monday, the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star addressed the conclusion of a domestic violence investigation opened by Utah authorities in February.

The statement follows the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office's decision on 14 April to decline filing charges against Paul.

Mortensen, 33, described the recent weeks as a "breath of fresh air" that provided him with much-needed clarity.

He admitted regret for not "stepping away from the difficult cycle sooner" and took accountability for his role in the turbulent relationship.

While he acknowledged his imperfections, he expressed strong disagreement with how the situation has been portrayed in the media, stating that the public narrative "does not reflect the full context" of the impact on himself and the couple's two-year-old son, Ever.

Moving forward, Mortensen announced his intention to step away from the public spotlight to focus on his growth and his responsibilities as a father.

"I’m closing an unhealthy chapter and moving forward with hope for better days ahead," he wrote. To underscore his commitment to healing, he included information for the National Domestic Violence Hotline in his post.

He concluded by expressing a desire to eventually use his experiences to support others navigating similar domestic challenges.
