The entertainment industry is mourning the loss of actor Patrick Muldoon, who passed away on Sunday following a sudden heart attack at the age of 57.

Denise Richards, who dated the actor for nearly five years during the late 1990s, is reportedly "inconsolable" after receiving the tragic news.

The Daily Mail reported that Richards, 55, has been left "devastated" by the loss of the man she had known since she was a teenager.

A source close to the actress stated, "She’s devastated. Really, really sad. I’d even call her inconsolable. She can’t stop crying."

The pair first met in an acting class when Richards was 19, and Muldoon was 21, maintaining a deeply respectful and amicable connection throughout the subsequent decades.

"Patrick is the ex that she had the best relationship with," the source added, noting that the two were often considered "better friends than lovers."

This sentiment was echoed by Muldoon himself during an appearance on the MisSPELLING podcast in October 2025, where he spoke of their families navigating the industry together.

Richards' daughter, Lola Sheen, also shared a poignant tribute on Instagram on Monday, thanking Muldoon for being her mother's best friend and revealing she had once hoped the pair would reunite.

Muldoon was perhaps best known for his roles in Days of Our Lives and the 1997 cult classic Starship Troopers, in which he starred alongside Richards.

A legacy of professional success and enduring personal friendships within the Hollywood community survives him.
