Kristin Davis responds to claims Carrie Bradshaw is a ‘narcissist’
The debate has gained traction on platforms like TikTok and Instagram
Kristin Davis is weighing in on how a new generation of viewers is reinterpreting Sex and the City and why one of its most iconic characters is facing fresh criticism online.
Speaking on her podcast Are You a Charlotte?, Davis addressed a growing trend among younger fans discovering the series through streaming platforms and social media, where Carrie Bradshaw is increasingly being labeled a “narcissist.”
The actress, who played Charlotte York in the hit HBO series, pushed back on the claim, saying she doesn’t agree with the characterization.
She suggested that the perception may stem from how the show is now consumed, often through short, edited clips on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
Davis explained that these snippets can strip away the broader context of the story, making Carrie, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, appear more self-centered than intended.
She also pointed to the show’s narrative style as a key factor. Because the series frequently uses Carrie’s voiceover to guide the story, audiences are placed directly inside her thoughts, which may skew perception.
“We’re not hearing everyone else’s point of view,” Davis noted, suggesting that this storytelling choice can unintentionally make Carrie seem more focused on herself.
Originally airing from 1998 to 2004, Sex and the City followed four women navigating relationships, careers, and life in New York City.
The series has found renewed popularity in recent years through streaming, introducing it to a younger audience.
