A 19-year-old man from Kentucky confessed to killing his grandmother in a savage and unexpected attack.

The victim, aged 74, was hit and kicked over 50 times before Testerman crushed her skull using a metal tumbler.

Wyatt Testerman appeared in Kenton County Circuit Court on Tuesday, where he admitted guilt but acknowledged mental illness for the October 2024 murder of Cheri Oliver. This plea allows Testerman to receive psychological treatment during his time in jail.

As indicated by a report from the Cincinnati Enquirer, Testerman pleaded guilty without an agreement from prosecutors, who are seeking the maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

In court, Testerman stated that he attacked his grandmother while dealing with substance addiction.

"I had been abusing LSD extensively," he reportedly confessed. "On that day, without reason, I assaulted my grandmother, hitting her repeatedly and causing her death."

According to Law&Crime's previous report, Testerman was apprehended in October 2024 after officers responded to a family altercation at a residence on Ridgewood Drive in Erlanger.

Officers discovered 74-year-old Cheri Oliver with significant head injuries; she was rushed to a medical facility but tragically passed away.

Investigators later reported that Testerman admitted to striking Oliver multiple times with his fists and a metal tumbler, with witnesses noting his sudden and unjustified aggression.

Prosecutors disclosed in court documents that Testerman had recorded the assault on his cellphone, carefully positioning the device before pushing Oliver down and hitting and stomping on her repeatedly.

Authorities detailed that Oliver was hit over 40 times and stomped about a dozen times, ultimately succumbing to severe head trauma.

During the assault, he supposedly paused at one point to check her pulse, exclaiming, "How is she still breathing?" before grabbing a metal tumbler to continue the brutal attack.

According to reports, Testerman's mother told officers she witnessed her son attacking and tried to intervene by striking him with a cane, while another witness recalled hearing him make chilling comments beforehand, warning the victim of impending consequences.

The case was headed to trial, with Testerman initially planning to use an insanity plea.

However, his lawyer mentioned that a defense expert later concluded he had antisocial personality disorder and was likely experiencing a psychotic episode due to voluntary drug consumption, which fails to satisfy the legal criteria for insanity.

During the plea proceedings, Testerman reportedly informed the court that he was experiencing visions but was aware of the legal process.

"I barely spent any time grounded in reality," Testerman reportedly stated in court.

Prosecutors noted that his psychotic episodes have consistently been associated with drug use.

Testerman now faces a potential prison term ranging from 20 to 50 years or life when he appears before Judge Patricia Summe for his sentencing on July 7.
