A coordinated effort by Stockton animal services and local law enforcement has led to the capture of four out of six stray dogs involved in a vicious pack attack.

The incident, which occurred on April 23, 2026, in the Weston Ranch neighbourhood, left resident Dorrie Reyez with life-altering injuries.

As of Wednesday, authorities confirmed that two more dogs were caught near the scene of the attack, bringing the total captured to four.

The attack took place while Reyez was walking near a levee trail. Cellphone footage captured by the victim moments before the mauling showed the pack surrounding her as she screamed for help.

Her son, Ronnie Reyez, reported that she sustained "at least 150 to 200 lacerations and punctures" across her neck, face, arms, and legs. "They got her pretty bad," he told reporters, adding that a Good Samaritan couple intervened to help his mother escape.

Reyez was rushed to San Joaquin General Hospital for emergency surgery and is currently continuing her recovery at a rehabilitation facility.

The Stockton Police Department (SPD) stated that daily efforts remain active to locate the final two dogs. The case has reignited a fierce debate over animal control resources in San Joaquin County, which local rescues claim is becoming a "dumping ground" for abandoned pets.

Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee addressed these concerns, stating that "public safety is the priority" while noting that roaming animals are the result of a lack of responsible ownership.

In response to the crisis, the city is expanding its spay-and-neuter partnerships with organisations like the San Francisco SPCA to mitigate the growing stray population.
