Bret Michaels reveals he played three shows before kidney stone surgery

Bret Michaels has revealed he underwent surgery after pushing through three live performances while suffering from an intense kidney stone that refused to pass.

The Poison frontman shared a health update with fans on Facebook, explaining that he endured nearly a week of severe pain before doctors determined surgery was necessary.

According to Michaels, the kidney stone persisted for almost seven days, but he continued performing, including a special show for veterans, active-duty service members and their families.

However, the pain eventually became unbearable.

"The pain became too much when the stone would not pass," Michaels wrote, revealing that he was admitted to the hospital immediately after one of his performances.

The 63-year-old rocker confirmed the procedure was successful and said he is now focused on recovering so he can return to the stage as soon as he receives medical clearance.

"The operation has been done and is complete," he shared, adding that he is doing everything possible to feel better and continue delivering great performances for his fans.

Michaels also thanked the doctors, nurses and frontline medical workers who cared for him during the ordeal, joking that they eventually convinced him to swap his stage clothes for a hospital gown after he headed straight from a concert to the hospital.

Despite the health setback, Michaels is expected to resume his North American tour, with his next scheduled performance set for July 31 in Belleville, Illinois.

The latest medical issue comes a year after the musician revealed he was considering adjusting his touring schedule following a diabetes scare. 

Michaels, who has lived with Type 1 diabetes since childhood, previously said dangerously low blood sugar forced him to rethink balancing his health with life on the road.
