  • The experience inspired the song Girl’s Girl on her latest album.

Zara Larsson has offered a candid reflection on a controversial chapter of her adolescence, revealing the "messy" teenage mistake that led to her social isolation.

Appearing on the Call Her Daddy podcast with host Alex Cooper on Wednesday, the 28-year-old Swedish singer-songwriter recounted an incident from her sixteenth year.

Larsson admitted to kissing her best friend's boyfriend during a New Year’s Eve celebration, an act she attributed to being "really drunk" and immature.

"I just kissed him back because I was messy like that," the "Lush Life" hitmaker confessed during the broadcast.

The situation took a more sinister turn when Larsson discovered the encounter had been secretly filmed by another guest. Before she could confess the indiscretion to her friend, the video had already been circulated.

"The f----- up thing about this, though, was that the girl whose [house] we had had the party at, she filmed this, and I didn't know," Larsson explained.

The fallout was immediate and severe; despite the friend not being deeply "in love" with the boy, the betrayal was deemed an "unforgivable mistake."

Larsson noted that her entire friend group subsequently cut her off, leaving her feeling like a "floating piece of trash in the universe."

The singer, who has been in a stable relationship with dancer Lamin Holmén since 2020, revealed that this painful period served as the creative foundation for "Girl’s Girl," a track from her 2025 album Midnight Sun. Larsson is currently preparing for the release of the album's deluxe edition, Girls Trip, on 1 May.
