Nicole Kidman teases ‘topical’ and complex new season of Lioness

Nicole Kidman has revealed the extensive preparation behind her performance in the spy thriller Lioness, describing the process as akin to completing a “thesis in the CIA.”

Speaking at the Icons of Taylor Sheridan’s Universe event in New York City, the Oscar-winning actress said she relied heavily on a dedicated research team to master the show’s dense and highly technical dialogue.

Kidman explained that every line in the script required careful breakdown to ensure authenticity.

“We have to understand every single thing we’re saying. It has to come trippingly off your tongue,” she shared, noting that the terminology had to feel as natural as everyday language despite its complexity.

The actress added that collaboration with co-stars Michael Kelly and Morgan Freeman played a crucial role in the process, with the trio regularly dissecting scenes together.

“What does that mean? Decipher it. Definition, definition, definition,” she said, emphasizing how “dense” the material can be.

Looking ahead, Kidman teased that the upcoming third season of Lioness will strike a particularly timely chord.

She described the new installment as “topical” and challenging, warning that viewers will need to “really keep up” as the story navigates complex and sensitive themes.

Beyond her latest role, Kidman also reflected on the unpredictability of success in Hollywood during a recent conversation with Ariana Grande for Interview magazine.

She noted that even the most talented performers often hover on the edge of opportunity.

“There are so many people that want to do it and are insanely talented, and just don’t get the lucky break,” Kidman said, adding that the industry’s unpredictability is also what makes it exciting.

“Sometimes that lucky break can just fall from the heavens and your whole life changes.”
