Kate Hudson reveals son Ryder’s NYU graduation could make family history
The actress called the milestone a major moment for her family’s history
Kate Hudson is celebrating a major milestone in her family as her eldest son, Ryder Robinson, prepares to graduate from New York University, a moment she said could mark a first in their family history.
The Running Point actress, 47, shared the update during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, revealing that Ryder, 22, is set to graduate in May.
“He’s not a kid. Ryder’s 22,” Hudson said during the interview. “He’s graduating college in two weeks. We realized, and I could get this wrong and offend some generation in my family, but I think he’s the first person ever in my family history to graduate college.”
Hudson shares Ryder with her ex-husband Chris Robinson. She also noted that her son has enjoyed his time at NYU but feels ready for the next chapter of his life.
“He’s ready to be in the world,” she added.
The actress, who is also mother to son Bingham, 14, and daughter Rani, 7, has spoken about Ryder’s future on multiple occasions in recent interviews, sharing her excitement as his graduation approaches.
During a recent appearance on Today, Hudson also revealed an unexpected creative side to her son, saying that while he is pursuing acting, he has developed a passion for furniture design.
“He’s an actor and likes to make furniture,” she said. “He loves designing furniture, and he’s making a sofa right now, which I’m really excited about.”
Hudson added with a laugh, “Maybe go in that direction, Ryder.”
Ryder is Hudson’s eldest child, born in 2004, followed by Bingham in 2011 and Rani in 2018.
