Savannah Guthrie abruptly exits Today show mid-broadcast sparking concern
Sources suggest Savannah Guthrie left for an appointment unrelated to her mother
- Savannah Guthrie left the live set early during the Wednesday morning broadcast.
- Co-host Craig Melvin assured viewers she would return to her desk tomorrow.
- The anchor’s mother remains missing following a suspected kidnapping in early 2026.
Savannah Guthrie made a sudden exit during Wednesday’s broadcast of the Today show, leaving viewers and social media users speculating about the reason for her departure.
Approximately 90 minutes into the live programme, Guthrie’s co-host, Craig Melvin, announced to the audience that she was done for the day. "Savannah had to leave a little early," he told viewers, adding, "She’ll be right back tomorrow, though."
No further explanation was provided on air, and the veteran journalist has yet to address the moment on her personal social media accounts.
While initial concern focused on her family, an insider reportedly clarified that the exit was for a scheduled appointment and was not related to her mother, Nancy Guthrie.
The 84-year-old has been missing since 31 January, after authorities believe she was kidnapped from her home in Tucson, Arizona.
Savannah Guthrie had previously taken a two-month hiatus from her duties at the NBC morning show to assist with the search, eventually returning to the anchor desk on 6 April.
The journalist has made several emotional pleas alongside her siblings for any information regarding her mother's whereabouts.
During her return to the studio, Guthrie described the desk as a place of "joy and lightness," noting that being back with her professional family was part of her purpose.
Despite the ongoing criminal investigation and a substantial $1 million reward offered by the family, producers have reportedly encouraged a "business as usual" atmosphere on set to support the anchor during this challenging period.
