Kate Mansi steps away from 'General Hospital' role as Kristina Corinthos-Davis
The actress said it was a 'very difficult decision' to step away from the role of Kristina Corinthos-Davis
Kate Mansi has confirmed she is leaving the long-running daytime drama General Hospital after portraying Kristina Corinthos-Davis for the past three years.
The 38-year-old Emmy-winning actress said she made a “very difficult decision” not to renew her contract with ABC, explaining that upcoming professional commitments and personal circumstances influenced her departure.
“I’ve made the very difficult decision to leave General Hospital,” Mansi said in a statement shared with journalist Stephanie Sloane.
“I have a few new projects that require my full attention and with my husband [Matt McInnis] currently producing a series filming primarily abroad, I needed the flexibility to travel while continuing to develop and work in Los Angeles.”
Mansi expressed gratitude to the show’s creative team, including executive producer Frank Valentini, ABC, and the writing staff, saying she appreciated the care given to her character.
“It’s been such a meaningful and unforgettable ride,” she said, adding that playing Kristina Corinthos-Davis within the Corinthos-Davis family had been a rewarding experience.
She also reflected on the deeper themes explored through her character, including LGBTQ+ representation and an endometriosis storyline.
“When Frank first approached me about the role, two things deeply resonated with me: the opportunity to show my support for the queer community by playing an LGBTQ+ character, and to help tell an endometriosis storyline,” she said.
Mansi added that she felt the production successfully handled both storylines with care and authenticity, and said she was proud to have been part of them.
She also noted that she had the opportunity to direct during her time on the series, calling it “the icing on the cake.”
“Now, it feels like the right time for both Kristina and me to step into new adventures,” she said.
ABC has not yet announced who will replace Mansi in the role.
