Singer Sabrina Carpenter has reportedly been granted a temporary restraining order against a man she alleges showed up at her Los Angeles home without her knowledge or consent.
Court documents reveal that Carpenter sought legal protection against a 31-year-old man named William Applegate.
According to her filing, the first incident took place on 23 May, when Applegate allegedly turned up at her property despite having had no prior contact or relationship with the Espresso hitmaker whatsoever.
Security camera footage captures suspect at the door
Carpenter described the encounter as deeply alarming in her legal filing, characterising the man's conduct as both deliberate and aggressive.
She stated that security camera footage had recorded him standing at her front door, where he allegedly attempted to open it before ringing the doorbell.
Members of Carpenter's security team stepped in to confront the man and ordered him to leave the premises.
According to the singer, however, he refused to go until police officers arrived and placed him under arrest. She further alleged that Applegate falsely claimed to know her, despite the two having never met.
Carpenter made her position towards Applegate unequivocal in her filing. "William Applegate is a complete stranger to me. I have never met him or communicated with him in any way."
"I have no desire to meet him or communicate with him."
Man returned to the property twice more
The situation did not end with the initial arrest. Carpenter alleged that Applegate came back to her property on 24 May — fewer than 24 hours after being arrested — and returned the following day, 25 May, again, prompting further interventions from both her security team and the police on each occasion.
Judge issues restraining order ahead of June hearing
A judge has since issued a temporary restraining order requiring Applegate to maintain his distance from Carpenter, her sister Sarah Carpenter, and Sarah's boyfriend, George.
A court hearing has been set for 17 June, at which a decision will be made on whether the order should be extended or made permanent.
