Robert Pattinson claps back at critics who mocked his Batman physique in 2022
Robert Pattinson told GQ he worked out twice a day at 3am to prepare for his Batman role
When Robert Pattinson first took on the role of Batman, his physical appearance drew scrutiny from some quarters, with critics suggesting he was not sufficiently muscular for the iconic Caped Crusader role. Now, the British actor has set the record straight.
'I worked out every day'
In a candid interview with GQ, Pattinson pushed back firmly against the criticism, insisting he had put in considerable physical effort ahead of the role. "[Everyone was like], 'You didn't work out at all.' I worked out every f***** day," he hit back.
"Even after that, I still look like I didn't work out," the actor quipped.
Elaborating on just how intense his training regime had been, he added, "I worked out twice a day at, like, three o'clock in the morning."
Pattinson also explained why he had failed to receive credit for his efforts at the time. He revealed that a throwaway comment made in a previous interview had come back to haunt him.
"I'm like, It's just because I said it in an interview [once that exercise was uncool]. I was trying to sound cool!" he said.
Pattinson in the dark on Batman Part II schedule
As The Batman: Part II moves closer to production, Pattinson admitted to being caught off guard by details of what lies ahead. In a seemingly relaxed exchange, he revealed that a stunt coordinator had recently informed him the shoot could involve "11 weeks of nights."
His reaction was one of genuine surprise. "I'm like, 'Excuse me?' I'm like, 'No one's even sent me a schedule,'" he said.
Production update
The Batman: Part II had previously been subject to delays, but reports suggest a schedule is now in place. In a nod to growing anticipation, the production has already offered fans a first glimpse of the new Batmobile as an early tease.
