Reese Witherspoon teases future return to ‘Legally Blonde’ franchise
The actress described her iconic Legally Blonde character as her personal 'superhero'
Reese Witherspoon has sparked excitement among fans after hinting that she would “love” to reprise her iconic role as Elle Woods in the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series.
Speaking at an FYC event for The Morning Show Season 4 in Los Angeles, Witherspoon reflected on the enduring popularity of the character and suggested she remains open to returning to the franchise in some capacity.
“I would love to do it again because it’s like it’s my ‘superhero,’” she said, describing Elle Woods as one of the most meaningful roles of her career.
The Oscar-winning actress, who originally brought Elle Woods to life in the 2001 hit Legally Blonde, compared the character’s cultural impact to major cinematic icons, noting that she sees Elle as her own version of a “Marvel character.”
“It’s like my Marvel character,” she added, emphasizing how deeply connected she still feels to the role.
Witherspoon also referenced other major Hollywood franchises while discussing the timing of potential returns, praising actors like Tom Cruise and Adam Sandler for carefully choosing when to revisit iconic characters.
“I would love to play her again,” she said, adding that such roles need to return at the “right time” in order to feel meaningful and impactful.
She noted that successful franchise comebacks, in her view, depend on timing and cultural readiness, suggesting that she intends to follow a similarly thoughtful approach.
Elsewhere during the interview, Witherspoon also shared updates on The Morning Show, confirming that Season 5 is already shaping up with major storylines focused on the evolving future of journalism and broadcast media.
“Season 5 has been so fun so far,” she said, adding that the series continues to explore timely and complex industry questions.
She also teased the arrival of several high-profile guest stars, including Sean Hayes and Jeff Daniels, who are set to appear in the upcoming season.
Reflecting on her collaboration with co-star Jennifer Aniston, Witherspoon described the experience as “extraordinary,” highlighting their continued on-screen partnership.
