UK woman recounts years of abuse after husband drugged her and facilitated assaults

A British woman identified as “Lucy” has shared her experience of prolonged abuse after her husband was convicted of drugging her and arranging for multiple men to sexually assault her while she was unconscious.

Speaking in an interview with ITV, Lucy described waking in 2021 to find a stranger assaulting her while her husband was present in the room.

“I woke to a stranger on top of me and my husband in the room watching,” she said, adding that the man fled shortly after she regained consciousness.

She then locked herself in a separate room with her children and contacted her father before calling police.

Her husband has since been sentenced to 15 years in prison after admitting to multiple offences, including drugging his wife over an extended period and facilitating assaults. Lucy said he confessed in recorded prison phone calls obtained by ITV.

According to her account, the abuse may have taken place repeatedly over several years, with her husband allegedly drugging her “two to three times a week for a year” and possibly longer based on electronic evidence reviewed during the investigation.

She said police later informed her that substances linked to car cleaning products had been used to incapacitate her.

Lucy described suffering severe physical and psychological effects during the period of abuse, including prolonged illness that she did not initially understand.

She said she often felt disoriented and unwell, later realizing the extent of what had been happening.

“I would wake up and not recognize myself in photos,” she said, adding that her condition deteriorated significantly over time.

She also expressed ongoing fear and trauma following the case, saying she remains concerned that unidentified individuals involved in the assaults have not yet been traced.

Police investigations have reportedly identified DNA from multiple individuals, though some profiles remain unmatched.

Lucy criticized aspects of the original investigation, including the lack of forensic examination of key evidence at the time.

She said she preserved items linked to the case for years in hopes they might later assist inquiries.

Police told ITV that investigations remain ongoing. “One man has received a significant prison sentence for the crimes he committed against this victim, but our enquiries are continuing,” a spokesperson said.

“We remain committed to doing all we can to identify any other perpetrators.”

Lucy said that while she is relieved her husband has been convicted, she continues to live with the long-term emotional impact of the abuse and the uncertainty surrounding other individuals potentially involved.
