U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, aged 90 and the oldest serving member of Congress, was briefly hospitalized after experiencing a minor fall at her residence, her office disclosed on Wednesday.

The incident has generated concerns about her health and ability to carry out her senatorial responsibilities.

Feinstein, a prominent California Democrat, was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure following the fall.

However, all medical scans came back with no signs of serious injuries.

Her spokesperson, Adam Russell, confirmed that she was discharged later the same day and is in a stable condition.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer stated that he had spoken to Feinstein and assured that she had suffered no major injuries and visited the hospital merely as a precaution.

Feinstein's health has been under scrutiny this year as she missed several months of work due to the shingles virus and its aftermath.

Since her return in May, she has been seen navigating the halls of the Capitol in a wheelchair and occasionally displaying moments of confusion.

Having announced that she will not seek re-election in 2024, Feinstein's decision has prompted a competitive race to succeed her.

Progressive Democrats had earlier urged her to step down due to her extended absences affecting legislative proceedings.

Nevertheless, key Democratic figures, including President Joe Biden and Schumer, have stood by her side.

The Senate is scheduled to resume its legislative activities in early September.
