April Ferry, an Oscar-nominated costume designer, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at the age of 91.

As reported by Variety, the news of her death was shared by the Costume Designers Guild. No cause of death of was revealed.

According to the Guardian, when  asked what she had sacrificed for her work, Ferry once replied, “A regular life. I spent a lot of my time on location. But it has meant I’ve traveled all over the world – I wouldn’t exactly call it a sacrifice.”

April Ferry had a costume designing career of over five decades and worked on over 50 projects, with accredited work in both television as well as film.

She scored an Oscar nomination for her costume designs in 1994’s Maverick and gained further prominence after working on Game of Thrones.

Ferry also frequently collaborated with directors for multiple projects having worked with John Maybury on the projects, The Edge of Love, and Rome.

She worked with Jonathan Mostow on Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and U-571.

John Hughes’ Planes, Trains and Automobiles, She’s Having a Baby and Richard Kelly’s Southland Tales and Donnie Darko were also projects Ferry designed costumes for.

April Ferry’s first TV project was 2005’s Rome, a historical drama revolving around the time when the Roman Empire was at its height.

She described  working on Rome as “the job of a lifetime” as it earned Ferry her first Emmy Award.

April Ferry also worked on films that fell into the science fiction genre, with her recent work being ion the films, Jurassic World, Elysium and RoboCop.

As a longtime member of the Executive Board of the Costume Designer’s Guild, she was honored with the CDG’s Career Achievement Award.
