‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ cast reunites for 30th anniversary

The Everybody Loves Raymond cast reunited for the show’s 30th anniversary, paying tribute to the late cast member Sawyer Sweeten.

The special featured the surviving cast members Ray Romano and his family, including wife Patricia Heaton, their kids (played by real life siblings Sawyer, Sullivan, and Madylin Sweeten) Ray’s brother Brad Garrett and their parents, Doris Roberts and Frank Peter Boyle, recalling about the show which originally ran from 1996 to 2005.

"In addition to Sawyer, Roberts and Boyle also died, which is why the show would never do a reboot without them," Ray said.

Sullivan, who was Sawyer’s identical twin, said, “I’ve got plenty of good memories of playing tag in the bleachers and the prop room.”

For the unversed, Sawyer took his own life at 19 in 2015.

Ray remembered him as "a wonderful and sweet kid" with "great energy", saying he was "shocked" and "terribly saddened" by his death.

At the reunion, he said, "So Sawyer, of course, is no longer with us, and we miss him."

Madylin emphasised the importance of discussing suicide prevention when talking about her brother, saying it's "so important" to bring it up.

She explained, “Were very passionate in our family about suicide prevention. It is the second leading cause of death between ages 18 to 25. But 90 percent of people who seek treatment are cured.”

Madylin shared that people often message her family, saying they're grateful for her brother's story, which has helped them.

Patricia asked Madylin if there’s an organization they support in Sawyer's memory. 

To which she replied, "We work with the national suicide prevention hotline, that's our main place, but people can grab a 'Sawyer' t-shirt. We do t-shirts every year, and all of the proceedings go there."
