Andy Dick enters rehab after alleged overdose incident in Los Angeles
Andy Dick confirms taking professional help after medical emergency in LA
Andy Dick has reportedly entered rehab following an apparent drug overdose earlier this week, when he was found collapsed outside a Hollywood-area building.
On Friday, December 12, TMZ reported that the 59-year-old actor and comedian confirmed he would be seeking treatment with the support of his longtime friend Jennifer Gimenez.
According to the outler, the NewsRadio star and Gimenez, who appeared together on Celebrity Rehab, have been friends for two decades.
“Jenny Gimenez is my sister who saved me with Tim,” Dick told TMZ, referring to Gimenez and her husband. He is reportedly entering a rehabilitation facility in the Palm Springs, California.
The decision marks a change from earlier statements the Road Trip actor made to TMZ, when he said he would not seek treatment.
“I'm not going to be in rehab,” he said when asked if he would pursue professional help.
Earlier this week, the outlet published video showing Dick sitting outside a 7-Eleven near Highland and Yucca on Tuesday, December 9.
A Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE that responders arrived at the scene at 3:14 p.m. for a “59-year-old male” and that it was an overdose, though the individual was not transported to the hospital and the Los Angeles Police Department also confirmed that it was a medical emergency.
Moreover, witness Shawn Harrell told the publication, “His body was limp. It was like deadweight. It was blue. I thought he passed away.”
It was added that Andy Dick was administered Narcan by the paramedics present at the scene.
