Bowen Yang pens emotional goodbye to ‘Saturday Night Live’: ‘I loved working at SNL’
Bowen Yang set to depart ‘SNL’ after seven years of experience
Bowen Yang’s departure from Saturday Night Live was announced on December 19 — a day before his last appearance was set to air — and now, the show’s longtime alum has shared a moving tribute to his time as its member.
The 35-year-old performer had joined the comedy sketch programme as a writer in 2018, before branching out into its onscreen cast, later becoming a core member among them.
Yang, who will appear on SNL for the last time this week, wrote on Instagram, “i loved working at SNL, and most of all i loved the people.” (Sic)
“i was there at a time when many things in the world started to seem futile, but working at 30 rock taught me the value in showing up anyway when people make it worthwhile,” his testimonial continued. (Sic)
He further expressed gratefulness “for every minute of my time there” — “i learned about myself (bad with wigs). i learned about others (generous, vulnerable, hot). i learned that human error can be nothing but correct. i learned that comedy is mostly logistics and that it will usually fail until it doesn’t, which is the besssst.” (Sic)
Proceeding to thank “every single person who showed up there,” Yang named a great bunch of friends and colleagues he had the opportunity to work with during his time on the NBC show.
Further expressing his gratitude to Lorne Michaels, SNL’s creator and longtime producer, “for the job. for the standard. and for bringing everyone at work together.”
“they all care deeply about people in the room, any room, enjoying themselves. i can’t believe i was ever included in that,” the tribute added, (Sic)
Finally, the Wicked actor concluded his text on a playful note, writing, “the show doesn’t go on because it’s ready, but shiiiiit, i hope i am.” (Sic)
Yang’s detailed note was shared alongside an Instagram carousel composed of multiple images — from behind-the-scenes on SNL to the series’ different celebrity hosts, the comedian-actor’s post had it all.
His tribute also included a picture of Ariana Grande, who is set to be the host during his farewell episode, set to air December 20.
Ariana Grande and Bowen Yang will also be joined by Cher as the musical guest on the upcoming edition of Saturday Night Live.
