Maia Knight shares ongoing health struggles of infant son after Influenza A diagnosis
The mom of three recalls a frightening emergency abroad after her baby struggled to breathe
Maia Knight opened up about her baby son’s ongoing health struggles, revealing that months after testing positive for Influenza A, he is still experiencing troubling symptoms.
The influencer, 29, shared a detailed update in a TikTok video posted on March 26, explaining that her 8-month-old son, whom she welcomed with husband Jake in July 2025, has “never fully recovered” since falling ill late last year.
“I feel like he did get better, but he still had some lingering congestion,” Knight said, recalling the aftermath of the initial diagnosis.
According to Knight, her son’s health issues didn’t stop there. About a month after the flu, she believes he contracted Respiratory Syncytial Virus, further complicating his recovery.
As his condition evolved, new concerns began to surface — particularly around feeding.
Knight said her son started vomiting after being introduced to solid foods, though the episodes appeared inconsistent and difficult to trace.
“It wasn’t every day. I couldn’t find a pattern to it,” she explained.
The situation escalated during a family trip to Iceland, where her baby began coughing and struggling to breathe, prompting an emergency call.
“Literally, I’m traumatized. We had to call 911. Like, horrible,” Knight recalled, adding that the family ultimately cut their vacation short and returned home.
Back in the U.S., the symptoms persisted through January and February, with frequent vomiting continuing despite adjustments to his diet.
At one point, Knight stopped feeding him solids entirely over concerns about a possible food intolerance.
“I spent so much time on the phone with my pediatrician crying because I was just so stressed out,” she admitted.
Medical testing has so far ruled out certain conditions, including pyloric stenosis. Doctors now suspect that the early viral infections may have significantly impacted the infant’s gastrointestinal system, making it difficult for him to tolerate food while recovering.
Now 8 months old, Knight says there had been a period of improvement — until a recent setback.
“I gave him avocado, and he was up throwing up for hours last night,” she said. “Honestly, the update is we don’t really have an update, and I don’t know what’s going on with him.”
Despite the uncertainty, Knight is trying to stay measured in her response, noting that feeding challenges can still fall within a normal range at his age.
“Food before 1 is just for fun,” she said, adding that more serious intervention may be needed if issues persist over the coming months.
The influencer — who is also mother to 5-year-old twin daughters, Violet and Scout — acknowledged the emotional toll the situation has taken, admitting she has been dealing with significant anxiety.
She also revealed that her son developed severe eczema during his illness, at one point causing his skin to bleed. While his condition has since improved, she remains cautious about potential triggers.
“We’re trying to figure it out,” Knight said. “But he’s giving his mom a run for her money. I think I’ve aged about 20 years since I had him.”
