Olivia Munn shares experience with 'obnoxious' co-star blocking her heroic scene
Olivia Munn often encounters dominant male personalities off-screen
Although Olivia Munn frequently portrays strong women on screen, she's had her fair share of challenging male egos behind the curtain.
The actress recently shared an incident involving a "difficult" male co-star who interrupted filming because he didn't want her character saving his and explained how she managed the tense situation on set.
"There have been several instances when I've been filming, and my character was meant to be like CIA or a cop," she mentioned on The Drew Barrymore Show. "In some scenes, my character was supposed to rescue the other character."
Munn described one particular scene, "I recall being in this bunker. According to the script, he was covering his side, I was covering mine, then we switched positions, and there was someone about to attack him from behind. So, I shoot the assailant. Just as we're about to film, it seems he hadn't fully read the script, and he suddenly realised, 'Wait, hold on. She can't be the one to save me.'"
"And then everything came to a halt. He was completely okay with being disruptive and having everyone hear him say, 'She can't save me! We're not doing it like this!' He even argued with the director," Munn continued.
The Predator actress recounted that after 45 minutes of delays, she suggested, "'Instead of my character saving you, how about we say it's just our turn to switch, and this guy is mine to handle.' And he agreed, 'Okay.'
"The funny thing is, nothing changed at all. His perception was the only difference. I was performing the exact action," Munn added.
Currently, Munn stars as Samantha Levitt in Season 2 of Your Friends & Neighbors, with fresh episodes streaming every Friday on Apple TV+.
