Explore nutrient dense matcha chia pudding recipe for optimal liver health
Dr Joseph Salhab recommends whisking matcha with warm water to prevent clumping
Mornings are frequently rushed, leading many to skip breakfast or choose less nourishing options. Dr Joseph Salhab, a Florida-based gastroenterologist, recently addressed this by sharing a liver-supporting make-ahead recipe.
In an Instagram video shared on Sunday, he introduced a matcha chia seed pudding designed to combine the antioxidant power of green tea with the fibre of chia seeds.
"It combines the power of green tea and the power of chia seeds for the ultimate liver health breakfast," he highlighted, noting its benefits for lipid metabolism.
This preparation provides a stable caffeine boost while supporting digestive health. The following ingredients serve four people and require minimal active preparation time.
Ingredients
- 6 tbsp chia seeds
- 1.5 cups non-dairy milk
- 1 to 2 tsp ceremonial matcha
- 1/4 cup Greek or non-dairy yoghurt
- 3 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Method
- Place chia seeds in a bowl and sift in matcha powder to avoid clumps.
- Whisk the matcha with warm water or milk until smooth before adding to seeds.
- Stir in the maple syrup and vanilla extract until evenly distributed.
- Transfer the mixture to a glass container and layer with your chosen yoghurt.
- Let the seeds swell for five minutes before covering and refrigerating overnight.
Health benefits
According to medical research, the catechins in matcha combat fat accumulation, while 25g of daily chia seeds can help lower liver enzyme levels.
These ingredients work together to reduce oxidative stress and manage non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
By preparing this nutrient-packed pudding in advance, individuals can ensure they stay energised and satisfied throughout the day.
