King Charles III has paid a deeply personal tribute to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, marking what would have been her 100th birthday with a recorded speech reflecting on her life, legacy and enduring influence.

The address was delivered on Tuesday, April 21, as part of a series of commemorative events held across the United Kingdom to honour the centenary of the late monarch’s birth.

“Today, as we mark what would have been my beloved mother’s 100th birthday, my family and I pause to reflect the life and loss of a sovereign who meant so much to us all,” the King said, speaking from the palace.

He added that the royal family would “celebrate anew the many blessings of her memory.”

King Charles highlighted Queen Elizabeth’s decades-long reign, describing her as a constant and steady presence through “remarkable change,” and praised her unwavering dedication to public service across the nation, the Commonwealth, and beyond.

“She remained constant, steadfast, and wholly devoted to the people she served,” he said, noting that her legacy is remembered both in moments of national significance and in smaller personal encounters that left lasting impressions on those she met.

The King also referenced one of the late Queen’s most widely shared cultural moments, her lighthearted appearance with Paddington Bear during her Platinum Jubilee celebrations, calling it a symbol of her warmth and sense of humor in her final years.

In his speech, King Charles reflected on his mother’s enduring values, suggesting she would have been concerned by the challenges of the present day, but remained hopeful in her belief that “goodness will always prevail.”

He closed the address with a personal tribute: “God bless you, darling Mama. You remain forever in our hearts and prayers.”

The speech comes amid a broader programme of commemorative events organized by the royal family, including exhibitions, memorial planning discussions, and public receptions celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s life and 70-year reign.

Earlier engagements included visits by King Charles and Queen Camilla to exhibitions showcasing the late Queen’s iconic fashion, as well as the unveiling of plans for a permanent memorial in London.
