Cardi B delivers bold Marc Jacobs look at Met Gala while battling illness
The rapper wore a dramatic custom Marc Jacobs gown on the red carpet
Cardi B made a striking appearance at the Met Gala 2026 in New York despite revealing she was battling illness on the night of fashion’s biggest fundraising event.
The 33-year-old Bodak Yellow hitmaker walked the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday (May 4, 2026) wearing a custom Marc Jacobs gown, later admitting she was running a fever while attending the star-studded event.
In a candid moment shared with reporters and later posted by Variety, Cardi B said, “You wanna know a secret? I’m actually sick and I have a fever,” revealing she pushed through illness to attend the gala.
Her dramatic ensemble featured a sculptural silhouette with oversized layered forms at the shoulders and hem, blending shades of pink, orange, purple, and nude tones.
The look also included satin detailing, black leaf-like embroidery, and soft pink gloves, creating one of the night’s most visually bold appearances.
This year’s Met Gala theme, Costume Art, explored the relationship between fashion and fine art, with the official dress code “Fashion Is Art.”
According to Vogue, Cardi’s look drew inspiration from the work of German surrealist artist Hans Bellmer, known for his provocative life-sized doll sculptures.
Beyond the red carpet, Cardi has recently been reflecting on her evolving approach to fashion, saying she has shifted toward more timeless investment pieces rather than trend-driven accessories.
In a recent interview on Aspire with Emma Grede, she admitted she sometimes looks back at past purchases with mixed feelings, particularly statement jewellery.
“Don’t buy a chain with your name on it. That’s not timeless,” she said, encouraging fans to think more carefully about long-term value.
She also highlighted luxury handbags, particularly from Hermès, as better long-term investments, noting that some items retain or even increase their value over time.
