Epicentre Films has obtained the French distribution rights for Bruno Santamaría Razo’s work Six Months in a Pink and Blue Building just before its debut at Cannes Critics’ Week.

The arrangement was finalised by Luxbox, a Paris-based firm overseeing global sales.

Set during the early 1990s in Mexico City, the narrative centers around a young boy named Bruno.

At 11 years old, his emotions toward his best friend Vladimir conflict with the shocking news of his father's HIV diagnosis.

Much like in salsa melodies, his family attempts to ease their sorrow through singing and dancing. Decades later, Bruno revisits these memories, filming them to capture what he couldn’t understand back then.

Marking Santamaría Razo's first foray into feature directing, this film received four accolades at Films In Progress Cinélatino Toulouse and has been chosen to compete at Cannes Critics’ Week.

“It became apparent to us that this perfectly aligned with Épicentre Films,” expressed Corentin Sénéchal, the Director of Distribution at Epicentre Films, highlighting the movie as “a piece of exceptional sensitivity and accuracy, where childhood regains focus through an adult's lens.”

The company’s listing of recent distributions includes titles like Ungrateful Beings by Olmo Omerzu, Justa by Teresa Villaverde, and Tereza Nvotová’s forthcoming drama Father.

Epicentre’s initial encounter with the film occurred when it was showcased during Cinelatino Toulouse’s work-in-progress segment.

“Their enthusiasm and expertise in LGBTQ cinema, alongside their experience in distributing films from Latin America—such as the recent A Poet—make them ideal partners for a project like Six Months in a Pink and Blue Building,” remarked Santamaria Razo.

Epicentre aims for a release on September 1.
