Bonnie Tyler, the acclaimed Welsh singer known for 1980s classics like “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero,” has been hospitalised in Portugal.

A notice was posted on the 74-year-old artist’s Facebook page and website on Wednesday, informing fans of the situation.

“We regret to inform that Bonnie has been taken to a hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she owns a residence, for urgent intestinal surgery,” the announcement stated. 

“The operation was successful, and she is now in the recovery process. We understand family, friends, and fans will be anxious about this news and will send heartfelt wishes for her speedy and complete recovery.”

As per Tyler’s website, she still plans to continue her scheduled tour later this month. 

Her first performance is set for May 22 at the SummerLUST Music Festival in Malta, with concerts to follow in Germany, Czechia, Hungary, Turkey, Austria, Scotland, England, Romania, Switzerland, Denmark, and Wales.

Born in 1951, Tyler gained initial fame with her hit “Lost in France” from her debut album “The World Starts Tonight,” released in 1977. 

Her well-known 1984 track “Holding Out for a Hero” was featured on the "Footloose" movie soundtrack that year. 

More recently, she has released albums such as “Wings” in 2006, “Rocks and Honey” in 2013, and “Between the Earth and the Stars” in 2020. In 2021, she unveiled her 18th album, “The Best is Yet to Come.”

In September 2023, Tyler published her autobiography, “Straight from the Heart,” chronicling her five decades in the music industry.
