Billie Eilish defends vegan views amid criticism from social media users
The Grammy-winning star doubled down on her vegan beliefs in a series of fiery Instagram posts
Billie Eilish has doubled down on her controversial remarks about meat consumption after facing intense backlash online over comments describing eating meat as “inherently wrong.”
The Bad Guy hitmaker, who has followed a vegan lifestyle since childhood, sparked debate after insisting that people cannot truly love animals while continuing to eat them.
Following criticism on social media, Billie addressed detractors in a series of blunt posts shared on Instagram, making it clear she was standing by her views.
“So stay f****** mad at me. I really don't give a Goddamn f***,” the singer wrote.
She went on to encourage followers to watch documentaries and footage showing the treatment of animals in the meat and dairy industries.
“Go watch a documentary or two and some footage of what is done to the animals u claim to love and what it does to the planet u pretend to love as well,” Billie stated.
The Grammy-winning singer argued that discomfort over such footage should prompt self-reflection, adding that she is “tired” of empathy toward living beings becoming a controversial issue.
The backlash began after Billie appeared in a video interview with ELLE, where she was asked to name “one hill” she would “die on.”
In response, the 24-year-old replied: “Eating meat is inherently wrong.”
She continued: “Two things cannot coincide: ‘I love all animals so much and I eat meat’. Sorry — you could eat meat, go for it, you could love animals, but you can’t do both.”
Billie has long been vocal about animal rights and environmental issues connected to meat consumption.
In a previous Instagram Stories post shared alongside footage from a US dairy farm, she criticised the treatment of animals and called on fans to consider the impact of their choices.
“I understand that meat tastes good,” she wrote at the time, “but that’s ignorant and stupid” to believe one person’s actions cannot make a difference.
The comments arrive as Billie continues promoting her latest concert film, Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft - The Tour Live in 3D, while remaining outspoken on issues tied to veganism and animal welfare.
