Dolly Parton's older brother Coy 'Denver' Parton passes away aged 82

Dolly Parton is mourning the loss of her older brother, Coy "Denver" Parton, who has died at the age of 82.

According to an obituary published by Atchley Funeral Home, Denver passed away on July 23. A cause of death has not been disclosed, and funeral arrangements will be private.

The obituary confirmed that Denver is survived by his daughters, Chris Parton and Jennifer Parton; grandson Ian Parton and his fiancée Taylor York; brother Bobby Parton; sisters Willadeene Buzzeo, Dolly Parton, Stella Parton, Cassie Griffith, Freida Parton, Rachel George and Laura Price, along with other family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Parton.

"Friends are welcome to sign the guest register book available at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Services will be private," the obituary stated.

Denver, a crane operator and farmer, was one of 12 children in the Parton family, alongside the country music icon.

Dolly, 80, has not yet commented publicly on her brother's passing.

However, the Jolene singer has previously spoken about how growing up in a large family helped shape her outlook on life.

In a 2023 interview with Hayley Williams for Consequence, Parton reflected on being raised with six brothers and five sisters, saying every kind of personality had surrounded her.

"I've got some of everybody in my own family," she said, explaining that the diverse experiences within her family taught her acceptance and compassion.

The Grammy-winning star also said her spiritual beliefs encouraged her not to judge others.

"There is a God piece in all of us, and I try to find that in everybody – even the worst people, there's something good in there," she said, adding that those who show hatred are often people who "have never been loved enough."

Denver's death marks another loss for the close-knit Parton family, with loved ones expected to gather privately to honour his memory.
