Kelsey Grammer criticises films that alter history for modern audiences

Kelsey Grammer believes filmmakers should respect historical accuracy instead of reshaping classic stories to reflect modern politics.

Speaking on The Katie Miller Podcast, the Frasier star said he finds it "a little exhausting" when films alter history or culture to align with contemporary viewpoints.

Grammer says historical accuracy matters

Although Grammer said he had not yet seen Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, he agreed that some productions try too hard to modernise historical stories.

"There are times when certain entertainment hits me over the head," he said. "It's a little exhausting."

He added that "historical significance should be respected a little bit, culturally," arguing that some historical settings should accurately reflect the people and cultures of the time.

When asked whether Hollywood could return to a more traditional approach, Grammer suggested poor box office results may encourage studios to rethink their strategies.

"Hollywood isn't very good at telling people what they have to see, because then they flop," he said.

He added that repeated commercial disappointments could eventually push the industry to change course.

"They're probably figuring it out. I think eventually flopping doesn't work so well," Grammer said.

Debate continues over modern adaptations

Grammer's comments come as several recent adaptations of classic stories have sparked debate over creative choices and historical interpretation.

While some films, including Disney remakes and Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, have drawn criticism for updating source material, Nolan's adaptation has also become a box office success despite divided reactions from audiences and critics.
