Grey’s Anatomy prepares to bid farewell to two key actors.
On March 25, Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver, known for their roles as Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman, announced their departure from the cherished show. Their final appearance will be in the season 22 finale, slated for May 7.
“Grey's Anatomy has been a significant part of my life, both creatively and personally, and I'm profoundly grateful for all that the show has offered me over the years,” McKidd, 52, shared.
“Portraying Dr. Owen Hunt and taking on directing roles has greatly influenced me, and I have been fortunate to work alongside incredible individuals during this period.”
“I owe special thanks to Shonda Rhimes for developing Owen and supporting me in my directorial pursuits,” he continued, referring to the mastermind behind the show.
“As this chapter draws to an end, I am eager for what’s next — creating new projects, sharing fresh stories, and using the insights gained in the next stage of my career.”
Raver, 57, revealed the information through an Instagram post commemorating Teddy.
“Playing Dr. Teddy Altman will always occupy a cherished space in my heart,” she expressed. “Sixteen years ago, I had the wonderful chance to step into this role, thanks to the vision of Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers. Ever since, it's been truly rewarding to bring the compelling words of Shonda and our talented writers to life.”
“I am particularly grateful to our current showrunner, Meg Marinis, for her guidance and compassion, and I want to acknowledge the exceptional showrunners before her, especially Krista Vernoff, whose influence was instrumental in Teddy’s evolution,” Raver mentioned. “It has been an honor working under the brilliant Debbie Allen, who not only mentored me but also allowed me the opportunity in directing.”
She wrapped up: “To my extraordinarily talented co-stars and our amazing, dedicated crew: sharing this journey with you has been a delight, and I will hold this team dear forever. To the fans, your steadfast dedication and support are why this show continues to thrive. Thank you for making this environment magical and home.”
Raver initially joined the medical drama in 2009, a year after McKidd's introduction. She exited after three seasons but returned in a recurring role in 2018.
Over her time on the show, Raver directed three episodes, while McKidd has helmed 48, including the upcoming season 22 finale.
The two characters have a deep-rooted connection that started from their shared military service.
Their bond turned romantic in season 14, leading to marriage and two children. Although they completed their divorce this season, Teddy and Owen’s romantic involvement continues, leaving questions about their ultimate outcome.
