Charlie Puth launches Whatever's Clever! as fourth studio album
Charlie Puth marks 27 March release with deeply personal record via Atlantic Records
Charlie Puth has officially entered a new creative era with the release of his fourth studio album, "Whatever's Clever!", which arrived via Atlantic Records on Friday.
This significant milestone follows a prolific period for the artist, who recently performed the "Star-Spangled Banner" to open Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium.
Speaking on his latest work, Puth admitted, "I had to take a closer look at myself to make this record and sing about things I normally wouldn’t sing about."
He further explained his desire for a deeper connection, noting, "Audiences knew my music more than they knew me because I never really gave them a chance to know me. This is the chance."
To achieve a "rich, warm, and big-sounding record," Puth collaborated with co-producer BloodPop, who encouraged him "to use sonics I hadn’t touched before, to sing about subjects I’d never sung about, and write songs that might’ve made me uncomfortable in the past."
The twelve-track project features notable contributions from Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins on the track "Love In Exile", and a spoken-word appearance by Jeff Goldblum on "Until It Happens To You". On Thursday, Puth promoted the launch on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", performing "Sideways" with Coco Jones.
The artist, who has amassed 35 billion streams and spent 12 weeks at the summit of the Billboard Hot 100 with "See You Again", described the new material to Tomás Mier at the Blue Note Jazz Club as "incredibly honest".
His "Whatever's Clever! World Tour" is scheduled to commence at San Diego’s Viejas Arena on 22 April before reaching European audiences this summer.
