Deidre Hall has responded with humor and warmth after Ryan Gosling revealed he was a longtime fan of her work on daytime television, turning an unexpected compliment into an open invitation.
The moment began during Gosling’s recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where the actor reflected on his childhood love for Days of Our Lives.
Speaking with host Josh Horowitz, Gosling praised the demanding nature of soap acting, singling out Hall’s iconic portrayal of Dr. Marlena Evans.
“They do not get the love they deserve,” Gosling said, noting the intense workload and fast-paced production of daytime dramas.
He pointed to Hall’s memorable possession storyline, joking that her ability to switch from a “normal person” to someone overtaken by the devil showcased just how skilled she is as a performer.
The actor added that watching Hall navigate such dramatic twists felt like “an incredible acting class,” recalling how impressed he was by her range even as a young viewer.
Hall, 78, didn’t let the praise go unanswered. Taking to Instagram days later, the veteran actress shared a playful video reacting to Gosling’s comments, revealing that the clip had been widely enjoyed behind the scenes by cast and crew.
“We played it in the dressing room, we played it in the makeup room — we’re just thrilled,” she said, thanking Gosling for recognizing the hard work that goes into the long-running series.
She then extended a lighthearted invitation to the Oscar-nominated star, encouraging him to visit the set of Days of Our Lives.
“We think it would be nice if you wanted to come over and see what we do,” Hall said. “Nobody will be possessed — and if they are, I’ll keep an eye on you.”
The exchange quickly gained attention online, with Horowitz joking about being “dragged” into the moment as Hall addressed him directly in her message.
Gosling, who currently stars in Project Hail Mary, has not yet publicly responded to the invitation. Meanwhile, new episodes of Days of Our Lives continue to stream on Peacock.
