Teddi Mellencamp delivered an emotional tribute to her father, John Mellencamp, crediting him with “saving” her life as she continues her battle with cancer.

Speaking onstage at the iHeartRadio Music Awards 2026 in Los Angeles, the 44-year-old reality star honored her father as he received the Music Icon Award, but chose to focus on his role in her life beyond music.

“Tonight we celebrate the career of my dad… but to me, he’ll always be ‘dad,’” she said, reflecting on a childhood that, despite his fame, felt grounded in everyday parenting and support.

Mellencamp then opened up about her ongoing fight with melanoma, first diagnosed at stage two in 2022 and later progressing to stage four after spreading to her lungs and brain.

Since then, she has undergone multiple surgeries, including the removal of numerous melanoma spots and brain tumors, alongside continued immunotherapy treatment.

In a deeply personal moment, she revealed how her father stepped in during the most difficult periods of her illness.

“He stepped up, took control, fought for me… and pretty much changed my life, saved my life,” she said, describing him as not only a music icon but also her “best friend.”

The tribute also referenced one of John Mellencamp’s songs, “Longest Days,” which she said took on new meaning during long hospital stays and the uncertainty of her diagnosis.

The 74-year-old musician has been candid about his daughter’s health journey in recent months, previously sharing that he encouraged her to relocate closer to him in Indiana for additional support. However, Teddi chose to remain in California with her children.

Despite the challenges, John has noted that his daughter continues to have “good days,” even as she navigates the difficult side effects of ongoing treatment.
