MHz Choice secures US rights to South African true crime drama ‘Cousins’
MHz Choice is set to debut the acclaimed South African crime drama 'Cousins' in North America
MHz Choice is set to bring the acclaimed South African crime series Cousins to viewers in North America. The service will debut this Afrikaans-language show in August.
The series draws inspiration from the heartbreaking true events involving two 12-year-old cousins, Issie Fourie and Petro Nel, who were abducted from a small town in South Africa’s Free State during the 1960s.
Sadly, the girls were killed. André, the brother of one of the girls, spearheaded the quest for justice, taking almost twenty years to achieve it.
In South Africa, the nine-part limited series first aired on kykNet, an Afrikaans-language channel that is a part of Canal+-owned pay-TV provider MultiChoice.
It garnered positive reviews domestically and was nominated for Best Afrikaans TV Series at the National Film & TV Awards South Africa.
“Cousins is an unforgettable and poignant historical crime series and an intense story of loss and retribution that crosses borders,” stated Lance Schwulst, EVP, Content Strategy, MHz Choice.
“We are extremely excited to present this moving, cinematic work to American viewers.”
Nomsa Philiso, Director Content, General Entertainment – English and Portuguese content, MultiChoice, expressed: “MHz Choice is known for spotlighting outstanding international narratives, and we’re excited that Cousins will be part of their collection.
As a Canal+ company, we continue our mission to deliver unique African stories to a worldwide audience, and this collaboration represents another important stride on that path.”
Kino Lorber’s MHz Choice consistently acquires top-tier non-English-language drama.
